LAYERS, CHANNELS and MASKS


There are two approaches to image editing - destructive editing that changes the pixels in the image file and non-destructive editing that changes the appearance of the image without altering the pixels. Non-destructive editing has many advantages but to do it you need an image editor that can use layers, and preferably layer masks and channels.
